MACNY's Emerging and Transitional Worker training Grant

MACNY AWARDED DEPARTMENT OF LABOR GRANT FOR EMERGING AND TRANSITIONAL TRAINING TO STATE MANUFACTURERS

Syracuse, NY-The Manufacturers Association (MACNY), today received a $405k
grant from the New York State Department of Labor titled the MACNY/NAM
(National Association of Manufacturers) Certification Project. The project will
provide a pathway for low-income individuals and the unemployed to achieve
workplace credentials and manufacturing skills certifications, leading to increased
employment in the manufacturing and construction sectors. Randy Wolken,
MACNY's President, was in attendance at today's Department of Labor
announcement, September 14, 2009, at 1:30 pm at the Amos Building in downtown
Syracuse, to accept the grant.

“MACNY has long maintained that one of the key components to our state
manufacturing sector's continued success is a highly skilled and educated
workforce,” stated Randy Wolken, MACNY's President. “MACNY, NAM and the
New York State Department of Labor have always shared similar philosophies in
providing local manufacturing firms with the most up-to-date information and
education possible, allowing our businesses to thrive in today's global economy.”
The National Association of Manufacturers (NAM) has developed partnerships with
several associations that provide nationally-recognized manufacturing certificates. As
part of the grant, this program focuses on education and mentoring of low income
individuals and the regional workforce to access local training programs designed to
help participants achieve welding, machining and production worker certifications.

MACNY is pleased to be partnering on this project with a number of local
community organizations, including Westcott Community Center, CNY Works, Inc., OCM BOCES, Onondaga Community College, Workkeys Center at Syracuse University, Partners for
Education and Business, Syracuse Behaviorial Health and the Greater Syracuse
Works.
“This promotes continued collaboration between national, state and local
organizations, as we continue to work towards a high quality workforce within the
Central and Upstate region,” finished Wolken. “I am looking forward to working
with The National Association of Manufacturers, the New York State Department of
Labor and the various local associations and organizations involved in this exciting
project.”
The Manufacturers Association (MACNY) represents over 330 companies in a nineteen
county region in Central Upstate New York. The 96-year-old organization provides
information, services, training, purchasing consortiums, and advocacy support for its
members.
