Pathways in Technology Early College High School (P-TECH) will offer a six-year integrated high school and college curriculum for grades 9 through 14 that focuses on advanced manufacturing pathways in mechanical and electrical technology and the acquisition of essential workplace skills.

Students at P-TECH will graduate with a New York State Regents Diploma/Regents Diploma with Advanced Designation and a Technical Endorsement, a no-cost Associate in Applied Science degree from Onondaga Community College in Electrical Engineering Technology or Mechanical Technology, and the skills and knowledge required of well paying, high potential jobs in advanced manufacturing. Successful graduates will receive first-in-line consideration for entry-level positions at partnering area businesses, as represented by MACNY. P-TECH is housed at the Institute of Technology (ITC) in downtown Syracuse – formerly known as Central Tech.

A critical component of the P-TECH (Pathways in Technology Early College High School) program is mentoring with a focus on supporting student learning, helping students understand the link between school and work, providing students with role models, and providing an opportunity for businesses to have a direct impact on future members of the workforce.  Mentors should be generally aware of the workforce needs of manufacturers and able to respond to student questions.

Companies that are already involved in Mentoring:

  • Berry Plastics
  • Darco Manufacturing
  • G. A. Braun
  • Hayner Hoyt Corporation
  • Liftech Equipment Co.

Key elements of the program:

  • A web-based software program with weekly activities will assist mentors in enabling conversation
  • Most communication is online and asynchronous allowing flexibility for the mentor and mentee
  • Communication with students will occur weekly for approximately 30 minutes
  • Periodic mentor/mentee events at the Institute of Technology in Syracuse will substitute for on-line

An online registration form and consent to conduct a background check (at no cost to the mentor) is required. Once approved, training will be provided by PEB and MACNY on the web-based software program.
