Plant Engineers Tour of Sunoco Malt Facility

The 1886 Malt House will produce a high quality, consistent supply of NY-grown and malted grains for the craft beverage industry, as required by the 2012 Farm Brewing Law. The scheduled requirement for locally grown ingredients, as defined by the law*

  • Until the end of 2018, at least 20% of the hops and 20% of all other ingredients must be grown in New York State.
  • From January 1, 2019 to December 31, 2023, no less than 60% of the hops and 60% of all other ingredients must be grown in New York State.
  • From January 1, 2024, no less than 90% of the hops and 90% of all other ingredients must be grown in New York State.

All grain procured for 1886 Malt House will be grown in New York State. The 1886 Malt House will supply 2,000 tons of malt annually to the craft beverage industry. Facility commissioning commenced in July 2017, with full production planned by the end of 2017.
