OSHA Alliance

MACNY is now offering several free or ‘low-cost’ safety consulting and training services via a MACNY/OSHA Alliance Program. Please let us know if you are interested in our Alliance programs.

For example we have a very successful safety mentoring program for smaller manufacturers in MACNY.

Safety Consulting

Every company must be aggressive in managing its risks. Every company needs an effective Loss Prevention & Risk Management Program. Many organizations cannot afford a full time Safety Manager. MACNY’s Safety Consulting service will help you identify and manage your risks without that expense.

Safety - Environmental - Risk Management - Loss Prevention

The following service descriptions can provide you with an idea of the breadth of MACNY's services and the scope of MACNY's experience. Please contact us to review your interests and needs.

Assessment of your environmental, health and safety program

This special walk-through service will give you an overview of the current condition of your company’s overall environmental, health and safety compliance status. Our consultant will identify program strengths and needed improvement areas. Then, either you can address the needed improvement areas or have the consultant do it for you. The walk-through includes EPA and/or OSHA compliance issues and risk management.

Hazard Communication Program

If your company utilizes or stores any chemicals or substances that can be potential safety hazards for your employees, OSHA requires the development and implementation of a formal Hazard Communication Program. This is the most commonly-cited violation by OSHA for the last five years.

Ergonomic Evaluation

Repetitive motion strain and cumulative trauma disorder can show up in a number of different ways in your work environment. These include carpal tunnel syndrome, eye strain, back and neck injury and tendentious. If your company fails to respond to what is fast becoming the leading occupational risk of the decade, you may face productivity losses, dissatisfied employees and increased workers’ compensation premiums.

Emergency Response

Do the people in your company know what to do in the event of an on-site emergency like a fire, spill, chemical release, employee accident, etc.? OSHA mandates that companies have formal procedures in place for each type of emergency.

Mechanical Material Handling

Are each of your employees who operate a powered vehicle (forklift, front end loader, bobcat, skyjack, etc.) certified, licensed and authorized for each type of equipment they operate? OSHA requires both classroom training and skills testing to ensure safe operation.

Workers’ Compensation Commitment Program

In New York State, Workers’ Compensation costs continue to soar and cause concern to many businesses. A business in today’s climate cannot rely solely on the carrier to solve the Workers’ Compensation claim problems. Arm yourself with the knowledge you need to process Workers’ Compensation claim issues. Learn how your experience modification is calculated and how programs such as pre-employment physicals, functional capacity, return to work and other issues relate directly to lower Workers’ Compensation costs.

Employment Practices Liability: Drug and Alcohol Program

If companies use the Department of Transportation Federal Omnibus program as a model, they know at least that this program has passed federal scrutiny. Know what your requirements are under a voluntary Drug and Alcohol program. We can help you initiate a program and employee awareness training.

Construction

The construction industry has hazards that are constantly changing. Learn how you can pass OSHA and Workers’ Compensation Liability to a sub-contractor via a contract that spells out safety duties. Learn the benefits of effective pre-job safety meetings and adding environmental concerns to your contract. Compliance programs, as well as training and enforcement issues, are covered right at the site.

Other program development and training available:

  • Personal protective equipment
  • Confined space entry
  • Lockout/tag-out
  • Machine guarding
  • Respiratory protection
  • Hearing conservation
  • Supervisory safety
  • Record keeping

  • Safety inspections
  • New employee safety orientation
  • Fire safety
  • Safety committees

Establishing a Corporate Policy

Analyzing your company’s waste stream to look for potential reduction opportunities accomplishes many goals including:

  • Reduction of hazardous waste in order to eliminate the need for regulatory compliance programs
  • Lower liability, risk, and potentially lower insurance premiums
  • Higher productivity from man hours that are not devoted to regulatory compliance mandates such as training and written programs
  • Reduced waste disposal costs
  • Re-use of product instead of disposal. Remain productive, remain efficient and ultimately more competitive.

If you need assistance in managing your company’s risks, and to be proactive and aggressive in loss prevention, let MACNY be your environmental, safety and health resource. For a free initial safety consultation, call us at (315) 474-4201.
Injury Prevention

Injury Prevention

MACNY has several programs to help prevent injury in the workplace or help return an injured employee to work promptly and prevent further injuries from occurring.

MACNY's Injury prevention training educates and motivates workers to use their bodies more efficiently to do the job at hand and to take care of the working body both during and after work. Physical therapy consultants help employees to modify work habits which significantly reduce physical stress on the working body using varying positions while stretching, and how to perform stretches most related to the needs of the working body in a particular job. The worker will learn how to improve efficient body movement during a task and to better protect the working body from premature injury, wear and tear, both on the job and at home.

Consultants periodically visit the work site to observe general activities and inform workers on how to best use their bodies in their particular working situation.

MACNY's New Injury Return to Work Program

This program focuses on good communication between the therapist, loss prevention manager and the physician. Injured employees will be evaluated within 24 to 48 hours and will be seen 3 to 6 days in a row for aggressive treatment implementation. At the end of this period (or sooner) the loss prevention representative and the M.D. will be contacted to evaluated whether therapy is available or if other intervention may be necessary. Many injured employees end up on medication for pain at home for weeks before any other intervention is commenced, which is detrimental to the goal of timely return to work.

MACNY's Functional Restoration Program

This program focuses on maximum function capacity training with rigorous strength and stretching programs over an 8-week period. This program is geared to work-hardening an injured worker before they return to their jobs and risk being re-injured, or for workers who have tried just about all interventions available and still have chronic pain.

MACNY's Post-Offer, Pre-Placement Screening

Functional screening testing can be provided to determine whether an individual can perform the job that has been offered. This involves a functional job analysis, testing the essential functions of the job in question.

Part Time Safety Manager Services

The business of safety can be a very demanding and complex issue for employers. Regulations require employers to perform hazard assignments, develop formal control programs, train employees annually and maintain very specific documentation. Accident costs and insurance coverage are a significant cost of your annual budget.

MACNY's Virtual Safety Director Service can help you and your company. Our consultant will take up residence in your facility for one or two days each month and help you build and maintain required OSHA programs, perform necessary safety training, coordinate safety committee activities, and help you build an effective safety system.

The Process includes diagnostic assessment, review of current safety policies, an exposure inventory, a loss analysis and review and development of an organization specific action plan.

Using information from the assessment, our consultant works with your team to develop written policies, define safety roles, develop OSHA record/keeping, hazard communication, lockout/tagout, bloodborne pathogen policies, emergency response, ergonomic hazard control and safety system measurement.

Our consultants will work in your facility at prescribed times to implement the programs, train your employees and measure results of your new safety efforts. In addition, our consultant can respond to OSHA visits and inquiries.
