Job Signing Day: The Highlight of PEB’s Annual Awards Event
Date: June 28, 2019
Partners for Education and Business celebrated their 2019 Annual Awards at Le Moyne College on June 12th. During the ceremony, many companies were recognized who have worked closely with PEB and the schools and students in Central New York. Also recognized were several leaders in the promotion of STEM programs and activities.
The focus of the event was to celebrate high school students who go above and beyond to consistently show their desire to learn and seize new opportunities. Out of the multiple students who were recognized as nominees for the Student of the Year Award, Kaleigh Chartrand, an OCM BOCES senior pursuing a degree in Early Childhood Education, and Mana Kulmiya, a Liberty Partnership Program student attending Nottingham High School, were selected to be overall winners for the award due to their self-motivation in exploring their career options, their personal qualities, and work ethics. Of the students nominated, the P-TECH Student of the Year award was given to Cati-ann Blodgett, who is enrolled in the Oswego County P-TECH Program for Electrical Technology, and Ailiyah Morris, a Syracuse City senior who is following a career path in Electrical Technology at ITC. Both students have spent many days going to companies to intern and job shadow, even while staying active in multiple extra-curricular activities.
As a capstone to the morning’s festivities, PEB also hosted its first ever Job Signing Day! Traditionally students might have a signing day for a college at which they will play sports; however, PEB wanted to celebrate these students that earned either their high school or college degree and are joining the workforce with companies here in CNY. The four companies that presented job offers to 9 students who accepted and are joining their ranks are: SRC, Inc., United Radio, TTM technologies/Anaren, and GA Braun. PEB is thankful to be able to work so closely with these companies and all the bright students who continue to amaze us every day. We would also like to thank all of the sponsors that made this event possible. For more highlights from this event, click here.
