Are You Ready?
By: David Freund, Chief Leadership Officer
There are only 363 shopping days until Christmas! Sorry I couldn’t resist. However, we are only a few days away from the New Year. Have you given it much thought? This is such an exciting week for me as I look into the upcoming year! What do you want to achieve in 2018? What hopes and dreams do you have? How do you plan on growing in the New Year?
Last Monday I led a class at MACNY based on John Maxwell’s book Intentional Living. In the class, we discussed four key points:
- Your Life Can Be a Great Story
- Why Good Intentions Aren’t Enough
- Start Small but Believe Big
- Search Until You Find Your Why
Each of these points is very relevant as you approach 2018. Do you believe that your life can be a great story? This is a foundational question that each of us needs to answer. I believe that your life can be a great story. As a person of faith, I believe you have specific gifts and a specific purpose for being. Viktor Frankl, Austrian neurologist and psychiatrist as well as a Holocaust survivor, put it best when he said:
“Everyone has his own specific vocation or mission in life. Everyone must carry out a concrete assignment that demands fulfillment. Therein he cannot be replaced, nor can his life be repeated. Thus, everyone’s task is as unique as his specific opportunity to implement it.”
So it’s time to give some thought about yours!
Let’s touch on the second and third points listed above, Good Intentions and Start Small but Believe Big. This should be an easy concept to accept since from time to time we all fall into the good intention trap. How many times have you thought about doing something, maybe even planned it out, and it never happened? Often this occurs because we start too big. We try to take too big of a bite rather than breaking our goals and dreams down into manageable daily activities.
It’s time to get started. Start writing the best story ever written. The story of your life. A life of significance. What do you want to achieve in 2018? What hopes and dreams do you have? How do you plan on growing in the New Year?
