CNY STEM SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM KICKS OFF
2020 APPLICATION PROCESS

Regional students majoring in STEM fields are encouraged to apply before the March 1st deadline

Partners for Education & Business, Inc. (PEB) today announced that regional high school students can now apply for a four-year college scholarship in engineering, architecture, computer science, or nursing.

The CNY STEM Scholarship Program, administered by PEB and the CNY STEM Hub, launched seven years ago to support high school seniors who plan to pursue a college degree in a field related to STEM. Residents of Cayuga, Cortland, Madison, Oneida, Onondaga, Oswego, and Tompkins counties are eligible to apply, and preference will be given to those attending a NYS higher education institution. Local employers offer the scholarships to students majoring in the certain studies they currently recruit to fill open positions.

Marianne Ferris, Associate Director of PEB said, “The scholarships began and continue to evolve because of the commitment from local employers to find the region’s best and brightest, assist with their educational expenses, and ultimately offer them internships and full-time positions right here in Central New York.”

The program maintains a database of the scholarship applicants and reaches out to them during the year to help fill summer internships with sponsoring companies. Over the past seven years, PEB has awarded 45 different scholarships with a total value of $490,000. This year, PEB has added nine more scholarships with an additional value of $108,000. These scholarships are unique in that they also include a paid student internship.

Interested students can complete an online application at cnystem.com.  The deadline for applications is March 1, 2020. The process includes independent reviews of the application, academic records, letters of recommendation, a listing of honors/awards, extracurricular activities, and a personal interview.
