On June 5th, the Syracuse P-TECH program completed their job shadow days for the 2018 – 2019 school year. This year, the 11th grade P-TECH students have been making progress toward earning their 2-year degrees in Electrical Engineering Technology or Mechanical Engineering Technology and are actively doing career exploration with partnering Syracuse area companies. The job shadows bring the students one step closer to finding jobs they will love. These opportunities allow the students to see the every-day details of specific positions that are employed by the company. The shadows allow students to learn the job responsibilities, expectations, and skills needed for a specific position. It’s also another relationship builder between the company and the student.
The P-TECH students gained a great deal from the job shadows – not only did they learn about the jobs they observed and the companies they visited, but it also excites the P-TECH students to be entering the workplace and meeting the company’s employees. Through these experiences, students are staying in Syracuse and the surrounding area and working for local companies that can continue to find and keep a great workforce right in their backyards. We would like to thank CHA, PPC, G.A. Braun, Air Innovations, and Gear Motions for their willingness to host job shadows for the Syracuse P-TECH Program.
